I dreamed of a day that one - just one - of those oysters held a pearl inside.
All the day’s oysters we put in buckets in the back of our Woody station wagon. The roasting pit back at the Camphouse also served as our s'mores station which was way more appealing to me than oysters as a little girl. I was intrigued as I observed the men and boys deftly shucking the oysters to eat raw - quite an art. If you’ve never shucked an oyster, you come to learn it is an art of skill and strength. Eventually my palate matured enough for the taste of an oyster...
